Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) network works to structurally improve working conditions and support the empowerment of workers – most of them women – in the global garment and sportswear industries. We:

  • Put pressure on companies (brands, retailers etc) and governments to take responsibility to ensure that the rights of workers in global supply chains are respected and implemented
  • Work in solidarity with organised workers fighting for their rights anywhere from the workplace to the global level; and take action on concrete cases of rights violations
  • Raise awareness and mobilise people to undertake individual and collective action (linked to consumption, citizenship, work, investment or other areas of life)
  • Explore judicial mechanisms and lobby for legislation to protect workers’ rights and hold companies accountable
  • Promote public and private procurement that ensures workers’ rights are respected in the production process

In the almost 30 years of our existence, an effective global network of more than 200 trade unions and NGOs has been created. Members and partners within the CCC global network are committed to a shared Global Strategic Framework, and cooperate in global working groups, as well as through national and regional coalitions. The Amsterdam office hosts two teams: the International Office (IO), which supports the CCC global network, and the Dutch Schone Kleren Campagne (SKC), which coordinates CCC activities in the Netherlands. These two teams are supported by IT specialists, an HR officer & office manager, a fundraising coordinator and a small financial team. In total, the organisation employs 25 staff within one legal entity (Stichting Schone Kleren Campagne). The organization has no Executive Director; decision-making is based on consensus and non-hierarchical principles, within a clearly defined framework of self-steering teams. The coordination of organisational matters is performed by a Cross Team Body (CTB), in which both teams are represented. The CTB has three portfolio holders (Finances & Grant management, Fundraising, and HR & IT/Office management).

The organisation receives funding from a mix of governmental, institutional and private donors. This includes CCC being a member of the Fair, Green and Global (FGG) alliance which receives funding from the Strategic Partnership program of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Buza). Job description

As financial coordinator you will be responsible for the financial management and accounting operations of the Stichting Schone Kleren Campagne/Clean Clothes Campaign. In our organisation this means that you are the all-round controller, making our financial systems fit for a vibrant global network, overseeing all our financial operations, as well as doing hands-on bookkeeping.

Together with the finance officer you will run the daily financial operations within the organisation. You will be the main bookkeeper and maintain our system of accounting records. You will prepare the organisational budget, annual accounts and all financial reporting to donors, in close cooperation with the IO and SKC staff. You will follow legal changes relevant for the (financial) operating of our organisation and advise the organisation on how to adequately and timely respond to this. You will work with the Fundraising Coordinator on the organisation’s financial presentation and budgets to (new) donors. You will support staff responsible for projects and partner contracts to budget and account, as well as work with financial staff of our CCC global network members  to ensure their financial reporting is in line with donor requirements. You will make relevant financial information available for the organisation in an up-to-date and accessible manner, to support monitoring of projects and programs as well as adequate decision-making on financial matters.    And finally, you will work with the Portfolioholder Finance & Grant management to develop a financial structure and policies adequate for achieving the organisation's goals and objectives, as well as donor obligations.

Key responsibilities

  • Bookkeeping

  • Yearly planning, budgeting / forecasting, ad hoc analysis
  • Financial systems, procedures and internal controls including continuous reviews, upgrades in line with (inter)nationally accepted standards
  • Writing financial reports for donors
  • Helping to develop financial capacities of colleagues and partner organisations

 

We ask:

  • At least seven years experience in financial controlling for an internationally operating NGO
  • Experience working within the Dutch legal frameworks for accounting and financial administration for NGOs
  • Both experience at developing policies as well as the day to day work and bookkeeping itself
  • Proven success in implementing administrative and financial policies and processes
  • Demonstrable experience with international grant reporting requirements (including European Commission)
  • Experience with accounting systems; knowledge of Twinfield is a plus
  • University degree (master’s degree) in a relevant area such as Finance/Economics
  • Excellent (inter-cultural) communication skills
  • Excellent command of English and Dutch, both in speaking and writing
  • Experience working with organisations within international networks is a plus
  • Commitment to labour rights, and knowledge of the garment industry and labour rights issues are a plus


Please note that the CCC IO is a small, hands-on organisation where staff is expected to contribute to the development of the organisation by sharing overhead tasks where needed, and participate actively in policy development.

We offer:·

  • A dynamic job in a non-hierarchical organisation in which all staff earn the same salary, within an inspiring international network
  • A 1-year contract which, upon satisfactory performance and availability of funds, will be renewed into a permanent contract
  • For 2018 the salary level is set at 3,443 Euros gross per month for 36 hours (full time) plus 8% holiday pay. For this position this means 2,295 Euros gross per month for 24 hours. Every year salaries are adjusted for inflation. Please note that, due to our principle of equality, the salary is not negotiable.
  • A fully paid pension plan, 36 Euros net telephone allowance, general net allowance 1% of gross pay, contribution towards trade union membership, reimbursement of travel costs (up to a certain amount) and individual training budget
  • 5 – 6 weeks holidays
